Popular singer Mila Islam is currently enjoying a busy schedule with concerts and various musical events. She is set to perform at an event at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium tomorrow. She is also in discussions to participate in several other concerts this month, and if everything goes as planned, she will take part in those events as well.

“There was a gap in my work for a while, but I was never away. I have been performing regularly on stage for the last four years and have also been doing shows abroad,” she said.

The current trend of remixing and reintroducing folk songs has drawn mixed reactions from music lovers. Mila, however, views the trend positively. Having remixed folk songs herself, she believes music does not belong exclusively to any particular artiste.

“I see recreating old songs positively. It gives the younger generation an opportunity to discover and listen to older songs in a new way,” she said.

Mila is also keen to become more active in playback singing. Although she had not recorded a film song for around seven years, she returned to playback with the promotional song “Akashete  Lokkho Tara” from the film “Insaaf”, released during Eid last year. Written by Sudip Kumar Dwip and composed and arranged by Shawkat Ali Emon, the song received a positive response from listeners.

Mila now hopes to work on more quality film songs, particularly as Bangladeshi cinema is seeing projects with bigger budgets.
