The department of information science and library management at Dhaka University hosted an orientation for new students and farewell ceremony for outgoing students at the auditorium of Teachers-Students Centre on Sunday.

DU pro-vice-chancellor, administration, Professor Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane attended the event as chief guest, with chairperson of the department Professor Md Roknuzzaman presiding over the ceremony, said a press release.

Arts faculty dean Professor Md Abul Kalam Sarkar and Ministry of Public Administration joint secretary Khondoker Noor-E-Al-Haque attended as special guests.

Professor Alfasane congratulated the newcomers and urged students to acquire human values alongside academic success.

He emphasised mastering modern domains like data science and artificial intelligence to adapt to a tech-driven world.

Encouraging an entrepreneurial mentality over conventional job-seeking, he urged graduating students to apply their knowledge for the welfare of society and the nation.

Additionally, academic excellence awards were presented to four students—Md Fazle Rabbi, Md Farhan Sadik Rafid, Tapashi Tamanna and Amina Khan—for securing the highest CGPA in final examinations.
