Former army officer and former Feni-3 lawmaker Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury has sought permission from the International Crimes Tribunal-2 to engage a personal caregiver and receive home-cooked food while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The tribunal asked prosecution lawyer Md Liton Ahmed to follow the application in the hearing list for consideration.

Masud, who is in judicial custody in an ICT case, filed the application under Rule 46A of the International Crimes Tribunal Rules of Procedure 2010 (Amendment 2011).

He has been undergoing treatment at DMCH since August 31 after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, according to the application.

His lawyers sought permission to engage Md Zaved Hossen as his personal attendant and caregiver during his hospitalisation.

The application said Masud requires round-the-clock assistance with his physical needs, mobility, medical tests and other activities because of his serious illness.

It also sought permission for his family to supply home-cooked meals prepared in accordance with the dietary advice of his treating physicians.

The defence argued that the general diet provided by the hospital for prisoners does not meet his specialised nutritional requirements.

It said both requests could be allowed subject to verification, security screening and other conditions imposed by the tribunal or jail authorities.
