The government has appointed 86 deputy attorneys general (DAGs) and 179 assistant attorneys general (AAGs) to represent the state in the Supreme Court.

The Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued separate notifications on Thursday, by order of the President, announcing the appointments.

At the same time, the government cancelled the appointments of all previously serving deputy attorneys general and assistant attorneys general.

The newly appointed law officers are practising lawyers of the Supreme Court.

The appointments were made under Article 3(1) of the Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972 (President’s Order No. 6 of 1972) and will remain effective until further orders.

The reshuffle marks a major reconstitution of the state’s legal team responsible for representing the government before the higher judiciary.
