National Citizen Party convener and opposition chief whip in the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nahid Islam on Wednesday urged the government to bring deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and other convicts in cases of orchestrating the July 2024 massacre back to Bangladesh so that the sentences handed down against them could be carried out.

He criticised the government for delaying the state reforms for what people voted in the February 12 referendum.

He also demanded that the government open the 36 July Memorial, the former official residence of the prime minister in Dhaka, to the public.

Nahid made the demands while observing the second anniversary of July Day, marking the beginning of the anti-quota movement in July 2024 that culminated in the ouster of the Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5 that year.

He was speaking after paying tribute to the martyrs of the July mass uprising at the Rayerbazar Graveyard in the capital.

National Citizen Party central leaders, including member secretary Akhter Hossen, Hasnat Abdullah and Nasiruddin Patwary, were present.
