Generous people donate to madrassahs, not govt primary schools: Bobby

State minister for primary and mass education Bobby Hajjaj on Saturday said that generous individuals often donated to madrassahs but rarely contributed to government primary schools.
‘Generous individuals donate to madrassahs but never to government primary schools,’ he said at a national dialogue in Dhaka.
The Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh organised the dialogue titled ‘Is the government delivering? Spotlight on primary education’ at a hotel in the capital.
Bobby said it would take more time for the changes being made in the primary education sector to become visible.
He also said that no activists or leaders of the Nationalist Democratic Movement [a political party founded by Bobby] were on the management committees of any government primary school in the country.
Centre for Policy Dialogue additional director (research) Towfiqul Islam Khan presented a keynote paper at the event.
CPD Board of Trustees member and distinguished fellow Debapriya Bhattacharya conducted the dialogue.
