Bera mayor suspended for assaulting UNO

Pabna’s Bera municipality mayor Md Abdul Baten was suspended for physically assaulting the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Asif Anam.
The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives issued an order suspending the mayor on Tuesday.
The notification said Md Baten assaulted the Bera UNO, used slang language and threatened the government officer at a meeting in October.
Later, Pabna deputy commissioner submitted an investigation report over the incident.
The indecent behaviour and misuse of power by the municipality mayor is tantamount to the crime demanding suspension under the law, the order said.
