Primary and mass education minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Thursday said that they would send requisition to the Public Service Commission to appoint head teachers in government primary schools on the same day.

At a press briefing, he also said that currently 36,235 positions of the head teachers in the 65,500 schools are vacant.

Additionally, in these schools a total of 38,443 positions of assistant primary teachers are also vacant, he added.

The ministry held the briefing at Bangladesh secretariat.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a High Court judgement that had struck down provisions governing the seniority and service benefits of teachers absorbed from 26,000 non-government primary schools nationalised in 2013.

The verdict delivered by a five judge-bench chaired by the chief justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury removed a major legal obstacle to the appointment of head teachers in government primary schools said attorney general Md Ruhul Quddus told reporters.

The primary and mass education ministry briefing was also attended by the attorney general and state minister for primary Bobby Hajjaj.
