DGFI recovers 160 gold bars hidden in Biman Aircraft cargo compartment

The Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) has recovered 160 gold bars weighing 18.720 kilograms during a special operation conducted on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

According to officials, the operation was launched based on intelligence reports. After Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG 148 landed at the airport, the aircraft was placed under constant surveillance.

Subsequently, a joint search operation was carried out in the presence of representatives from Aviation Security (AVSEC), Customs, and Biman Security.

During the inspection of the aircraft’s cargo compartment, authorities recovered 160 gold bars, wrapped in black tape and concealed inside an internal panel.

The recovered gold bars have been seized, and an investigation is underway to determine those involved in the smuggling attempt.

Authorities are also examining how the contraband was hidden inside the aircraft and whether an organized smuggling network was behind the operation.
