A police complaint in the form of a general diary (GD) has been lodged against journalist Anis Alamgir, TV host Soma Islam, and model-lawyer Jannatul Ferdous Peya, over allegations of making derogatory remarks about the July movement and issuing threatening statements.

The complaint was filed on Saturday night (July 4) by Millat Hossain, a member of an organisation named Rashtra Sanglap (State Dialogue).

The complaint also names three others, including model and actress. They are: Momin Mehedi, a former Chhatra League activist and columnist; model Maria Kispotta; and model-actress Shamima Islam Tusty.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly made offensive, misleading and derogatory remarks about the July movement, its participants, and those who were killed or injured during the protests through social media posts and television talk shows.

The complainant also alleged that the six were involved in spreading propaganda, tarnishing the image of the movement and engaging in politically motivated activities.

Shahidul Islam, the duty officer at Shahbagh Police Station, said the complaint has been received but has not yet been registered as a formal case.

He added that senior police officials will examine the allegations and determine the next course of action.

The written complaint states that the complainants came across several social media posts and videos while gathering at Hadi Chattar in Shahbagh around 4:00pm on July 3. Following discussions among members of the organisation, they decided to submit a formal complaint to the police.

The complainant urged authorities to conduct a fair investigation into the allegations and take legal action against those found responsible.
