The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation on Wednesday approved the establishment of three new upazilas and one new police station.
The decisions were taken at the 121st meeting of NICAR, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in the Cabinet Division’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The newly approved upazilas are Fatikchhari North in the Chattogram district, Bangara in the Cumilla district, and South Gafargaon in the Mymensingh district.
The committee also approved the creation of Halda Police Station by dividing Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram.
According to the approved proposals, Fatikchhari North Upazila will be formed by combining six unions currently under Fatikchhari Upazila. Bangara Upazila will be established by dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla and incorporating 10 unions. South Gafargaon Upazila will comprise eight unions currently under Pagla Police Station in the Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh district.
The newly approved Halda Police Station will be created from five unions carved out of Hathazari Police Station, which presently consists of one municipality and 14 unions.
The committee also approved a proposal to reorganise the administrative boundaries of the Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur districts by incorporating parts of the Purbachal New Town Project into the Dhaka district.
Under the proposal, 6,021.6125 acres of land covering 16 mouzas—14 in the Narayanganj district and two in the Kaliganj Upazila of the Gazipur district—falling within the jurisdiction of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha’s Purbachal New Town Project, will be included in the Dhaka district.
