Tarique, Erdogan discuss expanding Bangladesh-Turkey ties

Bangladesh prime minister Tarique Rahman and Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday discussed ways to strengthen and diversify bilateral relations between the two countries, with particular emphasis on expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation.
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting at the Turkish House in New York, on the sidelines of their engagements in the United States, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington.
During the meeting, Tarique and Erdoğan exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to further consolidating the ‘historic and friendly relations’ between Bangladesh and Turkey, the release said.
They also discussed prospects for expanding existing cooperation in sectors including the economy, trade and investment.
The two leaders stressed the importance of maintaining close cooperation and coordination on significant regional and international issues as well as matters of mutual interest, according to the release.
Tarique and Erdoğan expressed their commitment to exploring new avenues of cooperation based on shared priorities and mutual interests, it added.
