The Anti-Corruption Commission has sought information from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit as part of its inquiry into allegations of money laundering and acquisition of assets at home and abroad by former interim government adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain.
The ACC has asked the BFIU, the financial intelligence arm of Bangladesh Bank, to provide information and documents relating to the allegations, according to a letter signed by ACC deputy director and inquiry officer Md Zahid Kalam.
The request is part of the commission’s ongoing inquiry into allegations against Asif Mahmud, who is now the spokesperson of the National Citizen Party, the official said.
The ACC has also sought information on alleged transfers of money abroad and the accumulation of overseas assets, according to the letter.
The BFIU has been asked to provide relevant financial information and documents that could help the ACC examine the allegations and trace any suspected fund transfers.
