National Board of Revenue (NBR) launched its online e-return service for individual taxpayers for 2026-2027 assessment years on Wednesday. The revenue authority announced the decision in a press release.
Press release reported, this service aims to make tax services faster, easier, and more transparent. As this system was first introduced in 2021, a record 4.7 million individual taxpayers submitted their tax returns during the 2025-2026 assessment years.
According to the press release, the system gained widespread popularity following its introduction in 2021. A record 4.7 million individual taxpayers submitted their income tax returns online during the 2025-2026 assessment years.
The strong response highlights growing public interest in digital platforms. Taxpayers can now prepare and submit their annual returns directly from home.
A special order was issued by NBR which made online tax filing mandatory for all regular individual taxpayers. However, exemptions apply to senior citizens aged 65 or above, physically challenged individuals with valid certificates, non-resident Bangladeshis, legal representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh.
Taxpayers can pay their due taxes using bank transfers, debit cards, credit cards, or Mobile Financial Services (MFS) including bKash, Rocket, and Nagad via the NBR portal (www.etaxnbr.gov.bd). Upon successful submission, users can instantly download their acknowledgment receipts and income tax certificates.
Those who will file their returns between July and September will receive a 5 per cent rebate on their net payable tax, capped at Tk 25,000. The incentive will not apply to submissions made after September. Returns filed after December will incur additional tax penalties. The NBR urged all eligible taxpayers to complete their filings on time.
