33 senior police officials sent into forced retirement

The government has sent 33 senior officials of the Bangladesh Police into compulsory retirement.

They include 14 deputy inspectors general (DIGs), 18 additional DIGs, including one supernumerary additional DIG, and one superintendent of police (SP).

These officials, belonging to the BCS (Police) cadre, were retired from government service under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018, according to a gazette notification issued on Sunday.

The notification, signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was issued under the president’s order.

The officers will be entitled to retirement benefits as per the rules, read the notification.
This order was issued in the public interest and would take immediate effect.
Notably, two of the DIGs included in the retirement order are currently under arrest. They are Molla Nazrul Islam, attached to the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, and Md Saiful Islam, who had been serving as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
