A Dhaka court on Tuesday set 30 September for the next hearing on the framing of charges in a sedition case filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others.
Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury of the Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge-3 Court fixed the new date after a hearing, said defence lawyer Arif Sarker Pavel.
Another accused, Jamirul Islam Babu, reportedly surrendered before the court, which ordered that he be sent to jail.
On 27 March 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police filed a case against 73 individuals, including Hasina, on charges of sedition.
After the investigation, the CID submitted a charge sheet on 14 August last year against 286 individuals, including Hasina. The court accepted the charge sheet and issued arrest warrants against the absconding accused.
According to the case statement, on 19 December 2024, Hasina and others attended a Zoom meeting titled “Joy Bangla Brigade”.
During the online meeting, Hasina allegedly made anti-state remarks to her party activists, in which a total of 577 people, both from home and abroad, participated. She also allegedly instructed them to overthrow the then interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus.
