A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed November 3 for submission of the further investigation report in the case filed over the killing of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the date.

The court subsequently fixed a new date for its submission.

The court accepted Jaber’s petition and ordered a reinvestigation of the case.

Hadi was shot on December 12 after offering Friday prayers in Motijheel and completing his election campaign.

Attackers opened fire on him and fled at around 2:20 pm when the autorickshaw carrying him was passing through the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station on his way to Suhrawardy Udyan.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and then transferred to Evercare Hospital.

He was later taken to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment and died there on December 18.

On December 14, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed a case with Paltan Police Station over the attempted killing.

The case initially accused the suspects under several sections of the Penal Code, including criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons and abetment.

The case was converted into a murder case after Hadi’s death.

The Detective Branch submitted a charge sheet in the murder case on January 6 this year, accusing 17 people.

The accused named in the charge sheet are Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul alias Daud, 37; his father Md Humayun Kabir, 70; mother Hashi Begum, 60; wife Saheda Parvin Samia, 24; brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, 27; friend Maria Akter Lima, 21; Md Kabir, 33; Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, 34; Sibion Dieu, 32, who was allegedly involved in helping suspects flee to India; Sanjoy Chisim, 23; Md Aminul Islam alias Raju, 37; Md Faisal, 25, who was arrested in connection with the recovery of the weapon and ammunition allegedly used in the killing; Md Alamgir Hossain alias Alamgir Sheikh, 26; former ward councilor Md Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi; Philip Snal, 32, who allegedly helped suspects flee to India; Mukti Mahmud, 51; and Jesmin Akter, 42.

According to the report, Faisal Karim and the last five accused are absconding.

In the charge sheet, DB inspector and investigation officer Faisal Ahmed said an initial analysis of the accused persons’ political identities and political statements made by Hadi at different times suggested that he was shot dead out of political vengeance.

The charge sheet also alleged that Faisal Karim Masud and his associates deliberately infiltrated Hadi’s election campaign as part of a premeditated plan to ‘disrupt’ the 13th parliamentary election and ‘create fear and intimidation’ among voters.
