Court hands death penalty to 3 in 2022 housewife murder case

A court in Bhola on Sunday sentenced three men to death and two others to life imprisonment over the killing of a housewife in 2022.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Shawkat Hossain delivered the verdict.
Those sentenced to death are Abdul Malek Pandit, Mohammad Ibrahim and Abdul Mannan. The court also imposed a fine on each, with additional jail terms in case of non-payment.
Two others, Mohammad Selim and Mohammad Rafique, were sentenced to life imprisonment along with fines.
In addition, several others received prison terms ranging from two to five years for assisting the convicts or helping them evade arrest. One accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
According to prosecution documents, the victim, Bakul Begum, was killed while sleeping on a veranda in Shikdarer Char under Charfesson upazila on November 29, 2022.
A case was later filed, and after reviewing witness testimony and evidence, the court delivered its judgment on Sunday.
