Chhatra Dal announces panel for DUCSU election

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has announced its final panel for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, scheduled for 9 September.

The panel was unveiled by the organisation’s president, Rakibul Islam Rakib, at a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla.

Abidul Islam Khan, joint general secretary of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal and a student of the Islamic Studies Department (2015–16 session), has been nominated for the post of vice president (VP).

For the general secretary (GS) post, Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim, convener of Chhatra Dal’s Poet Jasim Uddin Hall unit and a student of the Women and Gender Studies Department (2018–19 session), has been nominated.

Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed, convener of Bijoy Ekattor Hall Chhatra Dal and a student of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department (2018–19 session), has been selected for assistant general secretary (AGS).

Chhatra Dal has announced nominations for all 28 central positions, including editorial secretaries and members. Among the key posts, Ariful Islam has been nominated as Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs Secretary, Ehsanul Islam as Science and Technology Affairs Secretary, Chemon Faria Islam Meghla as Common Room, Reading Room and Cafeteria Affairs Secretary, and Md. Mehedi Hasan as International Affairs Secretary.

Abu Hayat Md. Zulfikar Jisan has been nominated as Literature and Culture Affairs Secretary, while Sanjida Ahmed Tanbi—who was injured in the July 15 incident—has been nominated as Research and Publication Affairs Secretary.

Other nominated secretaries include: Chim Chimya Chakma as Sports Secretary, Md. Saif Ullah as Student Transportation Secretary, Syed Imam Hasan Anik as Social Service secretary, Md. Arkanul Islam Rupak as Career Development Secretary, Anwar Hossain as Health and Environment secretary, and Md. Mehedi Hasan Munna as Human Rights and Law secretary.

In addition, the panel includes members Md. Zarif Rahman, Mahmudul Hasan, Nahid Hasan, Md. Hasibur Rahman, Md. Shamim Rana, Yasin Arafat Alif, Munim Hasan Arup, Ranjan Roy, Swaib Islam Omis, Meherunnesa Kayas, Ibnu Ahmed, Shamsul Haque Anan, and Nityanand Pal.

Speaking at the press conference, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib said the panel had been finalized “based on everyone’s opinions in a completely democratic process,” stressing that “there is no interference from anyone else here.”

He added that despite facing long-standing repression, the organization has continued to uphold “positive, student-friendly and coexistence politics” on campus.

This panel will contest against rival student organizations in the much-anticipated DUCSU elections on September 9.
