More than 200 cattle washed away by the tide, more than 100 families stranded

Due to the increase in upstream water and abnormal tide, about two hundred buffaloes and cattle have been washed away in Daulatkhan of Bhola. At the same time, the farmers’ cowsheds, houses and necessary furniture have been submerged. Even after three days of the incident, the owners have not found any trace of the washed-away buffaloes. On the one hand, there is a fear of losing the buffaloes, and on the other hand, the farmers are spending their days in extreme anxiety due to the fear of river robbers.

Last Friday (July 17) night, the buffaloes were swept away from several char areas including Char Bairagi, Medua, Madanpur, Char Hazari and Hajipur in the middle of the Meghna River in the upazila due to abnormal tides.

The buffalo’s owners include Daulatkhan Municipality BNP General Secretary Zakir Hossain Babul, Abul Bashir member, Haji Akbar, Ismail, Mosharraf member and many others. Zakir Hossain Babul confirmed the truth of the incident.

The farmers said that despite searching various char areas for the washed-away buffaloes, none were found. On the night of July 17, the herders’ fort (high shelter) was submerged in water due to an abnormal tide. As a result, about two hundred buffaloes were swept away by the water from the buffalo hut and moved elsewhere.

Farmers claim that in addition to the buffaloes, the barn, necessary furniture, medicines, and other ancillary items have been destroyed, resulting in a loss of around 20 to 25 million taka.

Farmer Zakir Hossain Babul said the administration’s cooperation is needed to quickly rescue the buffaloes.

Meanwhile, due to the rise in water levels upstream, about two hundred families in Ward No. 7 of Bhabanipur Union and Ward No. 6, 7 and 8 of Syedpur Union outside the embankment of Daulatkhan Upazila have been waterlogged. They are living in lofts inside their houses. As the cooking stove has been submerged in water, it has become difficult to cook three meals a day.

The victims complained that no one has come to check on them so far. Local residents including Sadek, Ashraful, Main Uddin, Abul Kashem and many others said that if you work as a daily wage worker, you can get food, otherwise you have to fast. Many families are spending the day eating only chira-muri at night, while some are surviving on dry bread. They are living inhuman lives due to starvation and malnutrition.
