Three more die of dengue, 251 hospitalised in 24hrs

Three more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 22 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 251 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 7,557 in 2026.

Among the fatalities – two women and one man – one was reported in Barishal division, one in Khulna division, and one in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 66 patients were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 40 in Chattogram division, 19 in Dhaka division, 24 under DNCC, 33 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 40 in Khulna division, 15 in Mymensingh division, 12 in Rajshahi division, and two in Sylhet division.

DGHS data shows that men account for 61.4% of infections so far this year, while women represent 38.6%.

Currently, 660 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

According to official data, Bangladesh recorded 102,861 dengue cases and 413 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in 2025.

In 2024, the country reported 101,214 dengue infections and 575 deaths.

The previous year (2023) saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospitalisations.
