The Election Commission has published the final voter list keeping the upcoming local government elections in mind, with a total of 12,87,77,643 voters eligible to cast their ballots in the elections.
Election Commission Secretary Akhter Ahmed informed journalists about the development at EC Building on Monday.
He said, “Those who have reached 18 years of age by 31 July have been included in the voter list. In total, the number of voters stands at 12,87,77,643.”
Earlier on 9 August, the EC published a draft voter list. Akhter had said at that time the number of voters had increased by 309,315 during the updating of the voter list. The total number of voters was 12,86,32,555 and the voter registration deadline would be extended if the election timeline was delayed.
If this happens, the additional voters would be included in the supplementary list, Akhter had said.
The EC is eyeing to hold the local government elections from November after publishing the schedule in September.
The EC is planning to hold the union parishad and municipality elections first.
