Bangladeshi surfers Mohammad Mannan and Fatema Akter ended their 20th Asian Games campaign on Sunday after losing their second-round matches in the shortboard event at Long Beach in Tahara, Aichi, Japan.

Thailand’s Tinn Johnson defeated Mannan in a closely fought men’s shortboard contest with a narrow 9.40 to 8.50 victory. In the women’s event, South Korea’s Sujung Im knocked out Fatema, securing an 8.73 to 3.84 win.

Both surfers from Cox’s Bazar made history on Friday by marking Bangladesh’s official debut in Asian Games surfing when they overcame their opening-round hurdles.

Mohammad Mannan scored 5.74 points (3.17 on his first wave and 2.57 on his second) to secure second place in heat five. Fatema Akter scored 2.92 points (2.50 on her first wave and 0.83 on her second) to finish third in heat two.
