A headteacher and an assistant teacher of a government primary school in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali have been temporarily suspended after a video allegedly showing the two teachers went viral on social media.

They were suspended on Sunday through separate orders signed by Ishrat Nasima Habib, district primary education officer (current charge).

The headteacher is Saiful Islam and the assistant teacher is Jesmin Aktar of Bolabadsha Government Primary School in Begumganj.

The suspension orders said the alleged immoral conduct and circulation of the indecent video on social media and other online platforms had severely tarnished the image of primary education.

The two teachers were suspended under Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act, 2018, for their alleged involvement in such unethical activities, according to the orders.

They will be entitled to a subsistence allowance as per government rules during their suspension.

Confirming the suspension, Ishrat Nasima Habib told New Age that departmental cases had earlier been filed against the two teachers on August 25 over the incident.

The video that recently went viral on social media was reportedly recorded in December last year.

According to the allegations, the two teachers were inside the school’s office room during school hours when the video was recorded.

The education authorities took disciplinary action after the video resurfaced and spread widely online.
