The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has clarified reports published by several media outlets claiming that the regulator has decided to delist companies that have remained closed or inactive for a long period.

In a press release issued on Sunday, signed by BSEC spokesperson and executive director Md Abul Kalam, the regulator described the reports as ‘misleading and baseless,’ stating that no decision had yet been taken to delist such companies.

The commission, however, advised investors to exercise caution when investing in the shares of companies that had remained inactive for a prolonged period and faced significant going-concern risks.

According to the press release, BSEC chairman Masud Khan discussed a range of current capital market issues during an exchange of views with journalists at the Capital Market Journalists Forum office on July 9.

The commission said that some newspapers, online news portals, and electronic media subsequently published reports claiming that BSEC had decided to delist closed companies, which, it said, did not accurately reflect the discussions.
