The police on Sunday night arrested two people in connection with recent mugging of Anti-Corruption Commission director general (enquiry and investigation) Md Motaher Hossain in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The arrested are Shahzada and Rubel alias Boxer.
On information, the police conducted a drive and arrested the duo from a camp of Urdu-speaking people, widely known as Geneva Camp, at Mohammadpur on Sunday evening, said Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Mejbah Uddin.
Based on information extracted from the duo, the police recovered two mugged mobile phones of Motaher from Bosila area after 11:30pm on Sunday, he added.
Earlier, on Saturday night, a group of muggers surrounded Motaher with sharp weapons and took away two mobile phones, around Tk 15,000 cash and a wristwatch while he was walking near Dhaka Residential Model College at about 10:00pm.
The muggers allegedly assaulted him as he was late in giving his phone password before leaving the spot.
Motaher’s staff officer Javed Hossain Sajol filed a mugging case with Mohammadpur police station on Sunday regarding the incident.
‘The arrested were sent to the court,’ said Mejbah.
