At least 219 people were killed and 511 were injured in 409 road crashes in Bangladesh capital Dhaka in 2025, said a Road Safety Foundation report published on Wednesday.
The report identified the capital’s Jatrabari, Demra, Mohammadpur, Kuril Bishwa Road and the airport road areas as ‘hot spots’ for road accidents.
Among the fatal victims 80.36 per cent or 176 were men, 11.41 per cent or 25 were women and 8.21 per cent or 18 were children.
Of those killed, the highest 47.03 per cent were pedestrians followed by 43.37 per cent were motorcyclists and their pillion riders and 9.58 per cent were transport workers and passengers of buses, rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws and other vehicles.
The highest percentage of road accidents, 41.56 per cent, occurred at night while trucks, covered and pickup vans and tankers were involved in the highest percentage of road accidents – 35.14 per cent.
