Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman on Tuesday said National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam’s remarks over the bomb attack at the party’s rally in Savar as a political statement, while assuring that the government is investigating the incident and will bring those responsible to justice.

Speaking at a press briefing on the government’s activities at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room at the Secretariat, the adviser said the attack was “deeply unfortunate” and condemned the violence.

“Our primary responsibility is to investigate the incident and identify those involved,” he said.

Responding to Nahid Islam’s allegation that the attack took place with the support of the administration, Zahed Ur Rahman said, “His comments were political in nature. He has every right to make political statements. However, as the leader of a political party who played a significant role in our mass uprising, we expected a more responsible remark.”

Asked why no arrests had been made nearly a day after the attack, the adviser said investigations take time.

“Less than 24 hours have passed since the incident. It is not always possible to complete everything immediately. The government is making its highest efforts to arrest those responsible, and we hope there will be progress soon. There is a process of investigation, and the authorities are working through it,” he said.

He added that while no government can prevent every untoward incident, what matters is whether it responds seriously and takes appropriate action.

“I can assure you that this government is treating the matter with the utmost importance and is taking the necessary steps,” he said.
