Bangladesh has slipped one position to rank 13th among the world’s most corrupt countries in 2025, according to Transparency International.
The country was ranked 14th in 2024.
Transparency International Bangladesh released the TI Corruption Perceptions Index 2025 at a press conference at its office in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on Tuesday.
The CPI release was prepares based on data collected between November 2022 and September 2025.
The index measures perceived levels of corruption in the public sector on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates very high corruption and 100 indicates very low corruption.
In 2025, Bangladesh scored 24 out of 100 showing a one-point improvement from past year’s score of 23. Despite this slight increase, the country’s global ranking worsened.
Expressing frustration over the situation, TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman said, ‘We are losing control of corruption as our score is very disappointing.’
‘There was scope to lay foundation to combat corruption by the interim government but they failed to do it,’ he said.
The interim government of Bangladesh could not show accountability and it was hostage to bureaucracy, he added.
According to Transparency International, the CPI provides a global snapshot of corruption, showing which countries are improving, declining, or remaining unchanged.
It also highlights key trends and factors driving corruption at the global, regional, and national levels.
The CPI 2025 ranks 182 countries and territories worldwide based on perceived levels of public-sector corruption.
