Police detained two members of the now-activity-banned Juba League from Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka on Saturday as law enforcement agencies maintained a vigilant presence in and around the vandalised residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking August 15.
One of the detainees was identified as Arnab Das, while the identity of the other could not be known immediately.
Eyewitnesses said police detained the two in the morning as they were attempting to lay flowers at Dhanmondi 32, marking August 15. They were later taken away in a police vehicle.
Officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station Md Imdadul Islam told the media that Arnab Das was a resident of Tangail and that police had initially learned that he was an active activist of Juba League, an affiliated organisation of the Awami League.
“He is being questioned,” he said.
Imdadul said security had been strengthened in the Dhanmondi 32 area since last night.
“Police are prepared to deal with any situation,” he added.
