US ambassador visits NHRC, inquires about rights priorities

United States ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, on Wednesday visited the National Human Rights Commission and inquired about the commission’s priority in protecting rights.
The one-hour meeting was held at the commission’s Karwan Bazar office in Dhaka started at about 11:00am, NHRC officials said.
Sources present in the meeting said that NHRC chairman Kamal Uddin Ahmed informed him about their strategy, especially the commission’s role in protecting voting rights in the next national elections to be held in 2024.
