Two Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly injured in firing by members of the Indian Border Security Force along the Bashantapur frontier in Kaliganj Upazila of Satkhira district on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Mohiuddin, 42, son of Golam Rabbani, and Md Shahin, 28, son of Fazar Ali Sardar, both residents of Kaliganj Upazila.
They are currently undergoing treatment at Satkhira Medical College and Hospital, said Jewel Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station. He added that both individuals had entered India illegally a year ago.
Locals said the BSF members opened fire on them early Wednesday when they attempted to re-enter Bangladesh through the Kalindi River, leaving them injured.
Later, local people rescued them and took them to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, from where they were subsequently shifted to Satkhira Medical College and Hospital.
