Three buses were set on fire by unidentified arsonists in Mohammadpur and Tikatuli areas of Bangladesh capital Dhaka and in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital Monday evening, on the eve of the 36-hour blockade called by the main opposition BNP and its allies.
None was injured in the incidents.
Officials at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters said that a Midline Paribahan bus was set on fire at about 8:30pm and the fire was doused before reaching firefighters to the spot.
In Tikatuli area, a Delta Life Insurance staff bus was torched in front of Rajdhani Super Market area at about 9:55pm.
Two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze, said Md Sanjoy Khan, station officer of Sutrapur Fire Station.
United News of Bangladesh, quoting Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, reported that unidentified miscreants set a bus of ‘Itihash Paribahan’ on fire at Kabirpur Bus Stand in Dhaka’s Ashulia at about 7:05pm.
On information, two units of the Dhaka Export Processing Zone rushed to the spot and doused the fire, he added.
