BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended his support to the cancer-stricken mother of footballer Ritu Porna Chakma, popularly known as the Golden Girl for her outstanding performance in Bangladesh’s historic 2-1 win over Myanmar.
Her performance helped secure the country’s first-ever qualification for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, also with members of Amra BNP Poribar, visited Ritu Porna’s house located in Mogachhari village under Kawkhali Upazila of Rangamati on Wednesday and handed over financial aid to her family members for accelerating the treatment on behalf of Tarique Rahman.
Rizvi also assured the family members of staying beside them in times of need, in line with the directive of Tarique Rahman, now residing in London.
Ritu Porna’s father, who was also diagnosed with cancer, died in 2015. She emerged as the Golden Girl for her acclaimed football performance, driven by the enduring spirit of her late father.
Now she is continuing her studies in Philosophy at Dhaka University.
Recently, Ritu Porna scored two goals over Myanmar in a 2-1 win in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. Earlier, she also scored a goal against Turkmenistan.
Meer Helal, joint organising secretary of BNP Chattogram Divisional Unit, Amra BNP Poribar Advisers Ashraf Uddin Bakul and Abul Kashem, its Member Secretary Mokchhedul Monin Mithun, and Jahidul Islam Roney, a managing committee member of the National Press Club, were among, accompanied Rizvi.
