Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim expressed delight after hammering his maiden One Day International century to help the Tigers clinch the series.

The left-hander played a commanding knock, smashing seven sixes — the second-highest tally by a Bangladeshi batter in an ODI innings — as the hosts dominated the contest.

Speaking to T Sports after the match, Tanzid said the team’s victory mattered more than personal milestones.

“Alhamdulillah, it is very special,” he said. “First of all, we won the series today and it was very important for us because there are ranking factors involved.”

The 25-year old added that he never focuses on records while batting.

“When I am at the wicket, I try to contribute something good for the team by scoring runs,” he noted.

Tanzid explained that after getting a solid start, his aim was to bat deep into the innings.

“After 20 overs the ball started reversing a little. If a new batsman came in at that time, it might have been difficult for him. So, after discussing with Shanto (Najmul Hossain) bhai and Litton (Kumar Das) dada, they said it would be better for the team if I could prolong my innings as much as possible. So, I tried to do that,” he explained.

The southpaw admitted the century was particularly satisfying after several recent starts without converting them into big scores.
