Kalyan Party chairman Major General (retired) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim on Wednesday launched a new political alliance ‘Juktafront’ with two other political parties and announced to join the next general election in Bangladesh, scheduled for January 7, 2024.

Syed Ibrahim, also the Front chief, made the announcement at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka in the morning.

Two other parties in the new alliance are Jatiya Party (jackfruit) and Bangladesh Muslim League (hand).

At the press conference, Syed Muhammad Ibrahim said that they would participate in the next 12th parliamentary elections in alliance in a bid to make the 2024 elections acceptable to the nation and to the world.

‘I hope the election will be fair and acceptable,’ he said.

He said that they were grateful to the main opposition bangladesh Nationalist Party as they learned politics from them.

‘You can’t learn politics alone,’ he said.

‘I hope that the next election will be free and fairer than in the past,’ he said.

Ibrahim urged the government not to close the door of dialogue so that all the political parties could join the next general election

Jatiya Party secretary general Md Shahriar Alam and Bangladesh Muslim League chairman Sheikh Zulfiqar Bulbul Chowdhury also addressed the press conference.

Kalyan Party is one of the components of 12-party alliance that is now on simultaneous movement with the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party to press home the next election under a neutral government. Syed Ibrahim is one of the top leaders of the alliance.

The party was a component of BNP-led alliance in 2018 parliamentary election.
