State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam departed Dhaka on Tuesday morning for an official visit to the United States before attending an international peacekeeping conference in Morocco later this month.

According to a foreign ministry source, the state minister’s visit to the US is part of her official overseas engagements.

After completing her programmes in the United States, Shama Obaed is scheduled to join the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in Morocco from 19 to 21 May.

The conference will focus on strengthening global peacekeeping cooperation, improving operational capabilities and addressing emerging challenges in United Nations peace operations.

The state minister is expected to return to Bangladesh on 22 May.
