Freedom fighter KM Shafiullah, who was the commander of sector 3 during the War of Independenceof Bangladesh in 1971, died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka city.
He was 91.
KM Shafiullah, also a former Bangladesh Army major general, breathed his last at about 8:45am on Sunday, the Inter Services Public Relation Directorate director Lieutenant Colonel Sami Ud Daula Chowdhury said.
‘Sir was admitted to the hospital on January 2 with multiple complexities and died on Sunday morning,’ ISPR director Sami told New Age.
Sami said that the first namaj-e-janaza of the freedom fighter would be held at Rupganj after Zuhr prayer and he would be burried at Military Graveyard at Banani following his second namaz-e-janaza at Dhaka Cantonment.
KM Saifullah was born on September 2 in 1934, in Rupganj of Narayanganj and he served as the army chief until August 24, 1975.
