The much-anticipated Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election was expected to end weeks of speculation and drama—but controversy has continued even after the polls concluded.

One of the two directors nominated by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (NSC) became the centre of debate shortly after his appointment. Only a few hours after being nominated, Ishfaq Ahsan’s directorship was withdrawn following allegations that he is a businessman with close ties to the ruling Awami League.

In his place, the NSC has appointed Rubaba Dowla, a prominent corporate leader and sports organiser, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first-ever female director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Rubaba currently serves as the Country Director for Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. She previously held senior executive positions at leading telecom companies Grameenphone and Airtel. During her tenure at Grameenphone, she was a familiar figure in Bangladesh’s cricket community, as the telecom giant was the national cricket team’s sponsor between 2003 and 2011.

Given her experience in sports and corporate management, Rubaba is expected to take charge of the BCB’s Women’s Wing.

Apart from her association with cricket, Rubaba has been directly involved in badminton. She served as the President of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015 and has also been a board member of the Bangladesh Special Olympics.
