Nahid Rana picked up his second five-wicket haul as Bangladesh bowled out New Zealand for 198 runs in the second of the three-match ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Nahid, who claimed 5-32, gave the hosts their first breakthrough when he trapped Henry Nicholls lbw in the eighth over of the innings.

He completed his five-for by dismantling the visitors’ 10th batter Jayden Lennox’s stumps with a perfect yorker in his last over.

Nick Kelly played a fighting knock of 83 runs off 102 balls but couldn’t find much support from his partners.

The Kiwis, who were unchanged, opted to bat first again on a tough wicket where there were uneven bounces, while Bangladesh made one change with Soumya Sarkar replacing Afif Hossain.

Nicholls and Kelly started cautiously, as the first four overs yielded only three runs, while the first boundary of the innings came in the fifth over.

There were three boundaries in a row across two overs of Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam before Nahid made the first breakthrough.

Nahid took his second wicket in the first ball of his second over as Will Young was surprised by a 146.8 kph snorter and edged it to point.

Soumya bagged the prized wicket of Tom Latham, who was caught behind, before Nahid broke the 56-run partnership—the highest of the innings—between Kelly and Muhammad Abbas by removing the former. Litton Das caught a well-judged catch at the fine leg while running behind.

Kelly, who reached his maiden ODI fifty in 66 balls, finally miscued a pull off Nahid after hitting 14 fours.

With his departure, New Zealand started to lose wickets at a regular interval. Nahid grabbed his fourth when he had Dean Foxcroft—New Zealand’s hero of the previous match—before Rishad Hossain removed Josh Clarkson.

Shoriful had Blair Tickner before Nahid’s landmark wicket, while Taskin finished the innings by having Will O’Rourke’s wicket with eight balls remaining in the innings.
