A mother and her son were among three people electrocuted at Khastabak village of Patharghata upazila in Barguna on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Hamida Begum, 35, her son Md Russel, 14, and brother-in-law Md Delwar Hossain, 65.
Local ward council member Md Badal Pahlan said a live wire fell on Delwar when he was cutting a betel nut tree beside an electricity line. Russel and his mother died when they tried to save Delwar.
Md Abul Bashar, Palli Bidyut’s line technician, said they went to cut a betel nut tree beside a 240V coverless electric line without informing them.
