Mirza Fakhrul, 64 others acquitted in explosive case

‎A Dhaka court has acquitted BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 64 others in an explosive case filed with Ramna Model Police Station on 31 October 2023.

‎Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court issued the order after the police submitted the final report on Thursday, Additional Public Prosecutor Md Rafiqul Islam Khan told the Daily Sun.

‎Along with Fakhrul, others who were acquitted are BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Vice Chairmen Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Barkat Ullah Bulu.

‎Former Home Minister Altaf Hossain, Joint Secretary General Mahbub Uddin Khokon, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque, BNP Leader Ishraque Hossain and International Affairs Secretary Nasir Uddin were also acquitted.

‎According to the case documents, the BNP leaders and activists from across the country gathered in Dhaka for a grand rally and allegedly vandalised vehicles and obstructed police from doing their duties during the programme.

‎Following the incident, a case was filed with Ramna Model Police Station on 31 October 2023, accusing 55 BNP men. Later on 21 October last year, police submitted two final reports in this connection.

‎On 18 December last year, the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court accepted one of the final reports under the Explosives Act today and acquitted all the accused.
