Opener Abdul Malik struck a fifty as Bangladesh managed to pick up a solitary Afghanistan wicket in the second session of the one-off Test at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Afghanistan were 131-2 at tea break, with captain Rahmat Shah (33*) remaining unbeaten with Malik (60*), after Bangladesh put on 346 in the first innings.

Shahidullah was undone by a bouncer from Ebadot Hossain, as he was caught superbly by Hasan Mahmud at deep fine leg, after scoring 20.

Malik and Rahmat then picked up as Bangladesh failed to make any further inroads. Their partnership remained unbroken on 67 runs.

Bangladesh picked up one wicket in the first session as well, as Hasan finally broke through after DRS blunder deprived him of an earlier one. Opener Sediqullah Atal was caught at slip off Hasan for 17 off 31.

Sediqullah, however, could have been dismissed on four had Bangladesh opted to review. There was a hefty outside edge, but umpire Allahuddien Palekar remained unmoved.

The earlier review that went against Bangladesh might have prompted them to opt against it. That was also a caught behind appeal, but replays showed clear daylight between bat and ball. On both occasions, Hasan was the bowler with Sediquallah on four.

Earlier, Bangladesh managed 29 runs in the second morning, having resumed the day on 317-8. Nayeem Hasan, who played some well-timed shots, remained unbeaten on 35, adding 41 runs for the last two wickets with Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain, respectively.

Afghanistan took the second new ball—that had been due since the previous evening—in the first over of the morning, but it took them some time to make an incision. Taijul finally fell for a short-length delivery down the leg off Mohammad Saleem, who remained as the pick of the bowlers of the innings with a figure of 4-82.

After an unsuccessful review earlier, Afghanistan got that wicket via the Decision Review System, as umpire Ahsan Raza initially turned down the caught-behind appeal.

Yamin Ahmadzai then picked up his third of the innings when Ebadot Hossain was caught at point for a duck as Bangladesh were all out in 92.3 overs.
