Law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister Md Asaduzzaman has called on the international community, including Türkiye, to take sustained action to resolve the Rohingya crisis and ensure the dignified repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya to Myanmar.

He made the call in a written speech addressing the International Justice Summit–Istanbul 2026 in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Thursday.

The minister said Bangladesh remained committed to ending impunity, upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability through fair and due process. At the same time, he said, Bangladesh was facing challenges it had not created.

‘Bangladesh is a small country of about 1,48,000 square kilometres, home to more than 175 million people. Yet, guided by our commitment to human dignity, we have sheltered more than 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingya fleeing persecution in Myanmar,’ he said.

He said the Rohingya crisis was not simply a humanitarian issue, as it had placed enormous pressure on Bangladesh’s resources, environment, social stability and regional security.

‘Bangladesh cannot, and should not, be expected to carry this global burden alone,’ he said.

The minister expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its support since the beginning of the crisis, including First Lady Emine Erdoğan’s visit to Cox’s Bazar and Türkiye’s continued diplomatic engagement on the Rohingya issue.

‘But solidarity must now translate into sustained actions,’ he said.

Assaduzzaman said the crisis originated in Myanmar and therefore required a solution through international intervention and shared responsibility.

He stressed the need for a sustainable solution that would allow the Rohingya to return to Myanmar with dignity, citizenship rights and security.

Bangladesh has been hosting more than 1.2 million Rohingya who fled Myanmar following persecution and military operations in Rakhine State. Dhaka has repeatedly called for their safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.
