Bangladesh wrapped up their ICC Men’s U-19 Cricket World Cup campaign with a 74-run win against Zimbabwe in their final Super Six Group 2 match at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 253-9 and then restricted Zimbabwe to 179 in 48.4 overs, thanks to Iqbal Hossain Emon’s 5-24.

Bangladesh already out of the semi-final race before Saturday’s game finished the tournament with just one win from four games while Zimbabwe remained winless in Super Six stage.

Bangladesh lost opener Rifat Beg (15) early, but skipper Azizul Hakim Tamim formed two crucial partnerships of 46 and 73 runs with Zawad Abrar and Rizan Hossain, respectively, to anchor their innings.

Azizul scored 59 off 87 balls, with six boundaries, while Zawad and Rizan chipped in 25 and 47 runs, respectively.

Despite having a slow run rate, Bangladesh accelerated by scoring 79 runs in the last 10 overs with Al Fahad playing an unbeaten 23 off 12.

Tatenda Chimugoro, Shelton Mazvitorera and Michael Blignaut claimed two wickets each for Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe were no way in the contest as pacer Iqbal ripped through top of the order and later accompanied by Al Fahad, who took 3-39.

However, captain Simbarashe Mudzengerere played a valiant 70 off 121 balls after being reduced to 109-8 at one stage while Mazvitorera scored a run-a-ball 42 to help Zimbabwe reduce the margin.
