Eight like-minded political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, have announced a new programme to press five demands, including issuing an order to implement the July National Charter.

As part of the first programme, a mass rally will be held on Thursday (6 Nov) at 11.00am from the capital’s Paltan to submit a memorandum to the chief adviser. If the demands are not met by then, a grand rally will be held in the capital on 11 November.

The announcement was made on Monday at 1pm after an emergency meeting of the eight parties at the central office of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish in Purana Paltan.

Khelafat Majlish Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque said, “We have added three new demands to our earlier five. These are issuing an order to implement the July Charter, holding a separate referendum before the national election to implement it and keeping the amended Representation of the People Order (RPO) without any changes.”

Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said one of the allied parties was opposing the consensus reached earlier.

“We hope they will clarify their stance. The July Charter must be implemented through a referendum. Otherwise, before or after the election, it will be meaningless as voters’ attention will not remain on a yes or no vote,” he added.

The press conference was attended by Islami Andolon Bangladesh Ameer and Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Maulana Yunus Ahmad, Professor Ashraf Ali Akon, Jamaat leader AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Nizam-e-Islam Party leader Mufti Harun Izhar, Maulana Jalal Uddin, Ahmad Abdul Kader and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) spokesperson Rashed Pradhan.

Earlier in the morning, top leaders of the eight parties held a meeting at the Khelafat Majlish office. The parties include Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Khelafat Majlish, Khelafat Andolon, Nizam-e-Islam Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), and Development Party.
