Initiatives taken to make sports mandatory for students: minister

Education and primary and mass education minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Thursday said that sports are being included in the curriculum to develop children’s sportsmanship.

While inaugurating an event, he also said that the prime minister Tarique Rahman had given priority to learning with happiness to ensure joyful education for children.

 

In addition, initiatives had been taken to make sports mandatory for students, he added.

On the day the education minister inaugurated the national-level game — the Primary School Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys-Girls) 2026— at the National Bangla High School in Mirpur as the chief guest, said a press release issued by the ministry.

Ehsanul Hoque also said that in continuation of including sports in curriculum this football tournament had been organised for primary school students.

An initiative had been taken to provide school uniforms to children across Bangladesh, he continued saying, ‘mid-day meal has been introduced so that children do not suffer from malnutrition and can study with concentration.’

‘There is a plan to provide mid-day meal in all schools in the country by this year,’ he added.

The event was presided over by primary and mass education ministry secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain, while state minister for primary and mass education Bobby Hajjaj and prime minister’s education advisor Mahdi Amin were present at the event as special guests.
