The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Sunday directed the authorities to publish notices in two national newspapers, asking six fugitive accused—including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—to surrender in connection with the alleged staged raid at Jahajbari in 2016, which resulted in the deaths of nine individuals.

The two-member tribunal, led by Justice Golam Murtaza Mazumder, issued the order and adjourned the hearing until 8 March.

Earlier, on 29 January, the tribunal had issued arrest warrants for the six fugitives: Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan, Monirul Islam, Krishna Podo Roy, and Abdul Baten.

The decision followed the formal charges filed against eight individuals, which were submitted to the registrar’s office by the ICT prosecution on the same day.

Previously, on 24 March 2025, ICT-1 had ordered the arrest of former Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah in relation to the case.

According to the prosecution, personnel from various units of the DMP and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) carried out a raid at a house known locally as ‘Jahajbari’ in Kalyanpur, Dhaka, on 26 July 2016. Allegations later emerged that the operation had been staged and that the nine individuals killed, reportedly labelled as militants, had no links to militancy. It was further claimed that they had been held in police custody for some time and were shot at close range.

Following the incident, then-IGP AKM Shahidul Haque visited the site and stated that the deceased were members of the banned militant group Neo-Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (Neo-JMB).
