A group of HSC and equivalent examinees blocked the Science Laboratory Road in Dhaka on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of education minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon over the continuation of examinations amid flooding.

The protesters took to the street at about 11:30am as part of a pre-announced programme, disrupting traffic at the one of the busiest intersections in the capital.

The protesters said that holding examinations despite widespread flooding and adverse weather had created severe hardship for candidates, particularly those in flood-affected districts.

They said that many examinees had to go through knee-deep or waist-deep water and mud, while some travelled by boat to reach examination centres.

During the demonstration, they chanted slogans including, ‘One point, one demand — Milon’s resignation,’ and, ‘Who am I, who are you? Farm chicken, farm chicken,’ in protest against the minister’s reported remarks.

The protesters also demanded to postponement of the examination until the disaster situation has fully subsided, and re-examination for those who could not participate in the July 13 test due to adverse weather conditions.

Students also blocked a road in front of BNS Centre at Uttara in the capital at about 11:00am with the same demand.

The police said that both sides of the road were blocked due to the protest.
