Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday issued a veiled warning for different groups blocking the capital’s major roads to secure their interests, which are many a time irrational, but also causing huge public sufferings in the process.
The protesters are becoming intolerable and making people lose all patience, the home adviser warned while speaking to journalists after visiting the River Police headquarters in Gulshan in the capital.
He asked journalists to properly highlight people’s sufferings due to the protests, so as to motivate people to resist such irrational movements.
The problem of seeking purely “selfish and also allegedly irrational benefits” from the interim government, at the cost of huge sufferings for the greater public, gained attention during this week’s protest by Titumir College students demanding university status.
Many pedestrians and commuters vented frustration at the protests while netizens categorically chided Titumir College students.
The home adviser asked protesters from different quarters to place their demands before higher authorities. If the authorities fail to act, protesters can stage demonstrations in the fields of schools and colleges, instead of harming general people, he further suggested.
